experience: le centre pompidou

^the view from the top. =]

this morning i woke up very much in the mood for modern art. after doing a bit of googling, i made the obvious choice and headed to the centre pompidou--the national museum for modern art.

the museum was absolutely incredible. there central exhibit feautured female artists of the 20th century, giving credit to the pivotal roles they played in the progression of modernity. i took a notebook with me to scribble down favorite artists and left with a pages and pages of names. [of course that would happen...] i got to see lots of picasso [who seems to be in every single gallery i visit regardless of where i'm at in the world], matisse, warhol [EEEK!], and one of my favorite fine are photographers, dorothea lang. i will stop the list there before i'm tempted to ramble on for ages...

the view from the top of the building is truly fantastic--a view of the entire city, FROM the center of the city! i sat on the top level gazing out for ages at the buildings and people below. oh, paris.

it was especially fun to visit pompidou after visiting the moma in nyc last month, though i have to say that, in terms of modern art, my favorite is still the contemporary exhibit currently in the denver art museum [which i also visited last month!] it was also a lot of fun to draw the connections between the modernist movement in european visual art and its counterpart in european theater, which i studied last semester. i saw a favorite painting of my favorite surrealist playwright, apollinaire, and seriously could have hugged the world!

gah, art. it feeds my soul.

^the centre pompidou in all of its modernist glory. =D
